The Access Cambridge Archaeology, University Field Academy returned to Thorney July 14th & 15th 2010, led by project director Carenza Lewis and pottery expert Paul Blinkhorn.
Groups of 14 to 15 year old students from 5 schools across East Anglia dug sample pits in 11 Thorney locations around Abbey place and at properties along the Whittlesey Road.
The findings of the pits were analysed and conclusions drawn during the following day at a workshop day held at Cambridge University.
This is the 3rd dig in Thorney for the project. So with results from 2006 and 2007 a clear picture has emerged of land use back to the 9th century in Thorney.
Finds from Bridge House
In addition to the pits excavated by students, Dorothy Halfhide, curator of the Thorney Heritage Museum took finds from recent construction work at Bridge House to Paul Blinkhorn for identification.
